Ridiculous!

Okay, this is ridiculous! I have been with my P.T. for 5 weeks and I have not dropped one pound! I went in late today, on accident, and I ended up just talking with him to see what I can do. He suggested that I really stay on my food journal and try to eat a 2:1 ratio with my protein and carbs. Do you know how hard that is??? With 2 protein shakes and 2 protein bars a day, I am at best 1.7:1 . So, I am coming to my faithful readers for suggestions. Do you know a better protein bar I can try? What are some really good sources of protein with little carbs? Give me some recipes, ANYTHING that can help me reach this goal. It's going to be hard with Christmas this week, but I have to do it. I am sick of staying the same! Help!!!!

p.s. tomorrow will be the last time I write until after christmas. We are leaving tomorrow for the rest of the week. Merry Christmas!

  1. The Facts: It doesn't matter what combination of protein to carbs to fats you eat if you eat more calories than you burn. Your body knows when you're burning more than you're consuming and you feel hungry.

My Theory: You need to be willing to feel hungry in order to really lose weight. Things that will help you feel full for the fewest calories are fruits and veggies. They are full of fiber which can't be digested by a human body so the fiber just fills up the digestive tract and you think you're full for longer. Lettuce is one of the lowest-calorie filler uppers so the more lettuce you eat, the more full you feel and the fewer calories you consume. Protein and fat have the highest calorie content--protein should help you feel full longer because it takes longer for your body to process and it's essential for a body that exercises. However, protein doesn't have all the vitamins and minerals that are essential to helping you look and feel good like fruits and veggies.

My Conclusion: I think you need to lay off the protein bars and eat high-fiber, nutritious foods like whole grains (brown bread, brown rice, oatmeal) and fruits and veggies. You will feel full, get the nutrients you need, and lose weight. Because fruits and veggies take more preparation, you have to be conscientious about your meals--go to the store with a menu--set aside time for meal prep. I've put a bunch of recipes on my blog that we eat all of the time. They're really good and they have tons of veggies and beans instead of meat (which has fat and protein--the most caloric parts of food). Beans have protein, fiber, and vitamins/minerals.

Good luck and stop with the protein bars.

  2. If you choose to do what your trainer has asked you to do then I highly recommend APEX bars, so delicious and they have just what u r looking for. I also buy fat free sour cream and a packet of ranch seasoning and make dip, then I usually eat it with celery bc the body burns more fat and calories digesting it than what the celery has in it! Another great snack that has great protein is to buy Melba toast (wheat or grain) about 50 cal. worth, Light Laughing Cow cheese wedges (8 to a pack) There are several differnt flavors and 4 slices of pre sliced turkey. Use one wedge, which is more than enough, put it on your crackers and then the slices of turkey on top, very good and very easy. I can also give you a recipie for protein pancakes that blew me away also very easy.Let me know if you'd like it- good luck and hang in there!
